Bill Hill grew up in Midwest, developing an early passion for rocks and minerals thanks to his neighbor’s mentorship and the inspiration of a high school earth sciences teacher. Motivated by this passion, he earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he completed his degree in Geological Engineering — perfectly combining his love for geology, travel, hunting, and fishing.

Over the next 25 years, Bill traveled extensively across North and South America, working in natural resource development and exploring some of the world’s most fascinating geological regions. Along the way, he also shared his enthusiasm for rockhounding with his family, inspiring them to embark on rockhounding adventures throughout the Western United States and the world.

When not traveling internationally, Bill enjoys staying active with his two sons, who work as rafting guides during the summer months in the Pacific Northwest. Together, they spend their time rafting, rockhounding, and hiking across Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and the Andes Mountains of South America.
