Meet Your Expert Guide: Angélica Alvarez Naranjo
Angélica Alvarez Naranjo is a seasoned geologist specializing in structural geology, tectonics, geological hazards, and geotechnics. With a Ph.D. in Geology and Geophysics from Missouri University of Science and Technology and a B.S. in Geology from Universidad de Caldas, Angélica has extensive experience in geological and geotechnical consulting, geological mapping, and slope stability analysis for major infrastructure projects.
Currently a lecturer at Universidad Industrial de Santander, she teaches undergraduate courses in Structural Geology, Field Geology, and Geomorphology, and has also lectured in advanced microtectonics at the postgraduate level at Universidad de Caldas. Angélica’s fieldwork expertise includes structural mapping, cross-sectional analysis, and geological hazard assessment across diverse terrains in Colombia and Peru.
Her career spans significant projects, from geological assessments for the Porce III Hydro-Electrical Project to geological and geotechnical consulting for Vision Norte in Manizales, where she coordinated mineral exploration and risk management initiatives. Angélica’s practical experience is further enriched by her work on the structural analysis of basement structures in the USA, where she investigated the impact of inherited geological structures on nascent rift faults.
With her in-depth knowledge of geological hazards, extensive field experience, and academic background, Angélica will provide valuable insights into the geological processes shaping the Ruiz Volcanic Complex, enhancing the exploration of Santander and Manizales with a unique perspective on regional tectonics and geohazards.
