From ancient metamorphic rocks and volcanic formations to glacial valleys and the Andes Mountains, each stop along the route contributes to the geological story of the Aysén Region. The excursion follows key chapters in Patagonia’s evolution, placing each landscape within the context of the tectonic, volcanic, and glacial processes that shaped southern Chile.

Full-Day Geological Itinerary

The tour explores a selection of geological sites across the Coyhaique area, with the possibility of extending the journey toward Puerto Ibáñez and Cerro Castillo.

Coyhaique Area

Our geological exploration begins in and around Coyhaique, with field locations that may include Alto Baguales, Río Pollux, and other sites selected according to the conditions and geological interests of the day.

These stops provide opportunities to explore the rocks, landforms, and geological processes that reveal different chapters in the evolution of the Aysén Region.

Puerto Ibáñez

Depending on the itinerary, the journey may continue toward Puerto Ibáñez, adding another perspective on the geological landscapes of Aysén.

Cerro Castillo

The tour may also include Cerro Castillo, one of the region’s most striking mountain landscapes and another opportunity to explore Patagonia’s geological history in the field.
